Travel information portal www. Baikalinfo.com
(former www.baikalhostels.com)
For more than 10 years we have travelled regularly to Siberia and Lake Baikal respectively. Especially since 2000, the inflow of tourists from Germany, Poland, or France has increased steadily. But in contrast, you only find fragmentary travel information and hints about Irkutsk, Lake Baikal, and its surrounding area on the internet.
But baikalinfo.com is not only to be an extensive travel portal, but also is to advertise and to link offerings on location that have been unknown so far.
But an important aspect for us is the fact that we don't want to boost the mass tourism. Our aim is to point out prospects for the people on location, to support the gentle tourism, as well as to maintain the conventions and customs and to encourage the cultural exchange. Lake Baikal is of utmost importance, and we dedicate the first drop of Vodka in our glass to it.
At the beginning of 2003 we started the development of the travel information portal www.baikalhostels.com. Since then the portal has continuously become more extensive, and since March 2005 nearly all information finally has been available in English as well. At the beginning, our focus was on the presentation of possibilities of cheap accommodation, but in the meantime you can find almost every kind of important travel information on the portal, which was the reason why we have renamed it as www.baikalinfo.com.
In the future we would like to expand especially one sector, namely the detailed descriptions of exciting day trips as well as excursions around Lake Baikal. Particularly our dedication at the construction of the "Great Baikal Trail" and our carthografy project, which started in Summer 2005, are to make fast progresses possible.
Even if we visit Lake Baikal almost half-yearly in the meantime, we have to rely on the advices and assistance of others. If you have just returned from Lake Baikal, please send us an email with all important information, like new bus connections, new prices, new possibilities of accommodation, or interesting tour reports.
